We are at War

Christians must realize that we are at war, whether we like it or not. It's a real war with a real enemy—the devil. He doesn't want to hurt us—he wants to kill us. He wants to destroy our children, our grand children, our nation, and us.

Right now the devil is winning. The tide of the war must be turned, or our way of life, as we know it in America, will end.

For a generation we have regarded it as a conflict, a nuisance—not a war. We have sent out small groups of our troops with orders to observe, for limited action only. It has been a little like that game at the amusement stand, where the gopher just keeps poking his head up through a series of holes, and we are supposed to smack him down with our wooden mallet. The faster he pops up, the faster we are to react.

I've got a newsflash. That gopher has more than one head! And, we've only got one hammer! So, no matter how fast we beat him down, the gopher is going to win that game! Obviously, we're employing the wrong strategy to win the gopher game. Wouldn't it be smarter to pull that gopher's plug—to cut off that guy's power supply? That's the only way we’re going to win!

In America today, we must realize that the real battle will never be won in the voting booth. We must also recognize that the real enemy is not drugs, sick sex, abortion, crime, or any of the other flaws that seem to plague us.

These are only the symptoms of the real disease—sin. Our real battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. Just as in the gopher game, it will do us no real good to just keep beating these sinners over the head with a hammer. We have to get at their power source. I know this sounds radical. Can we even do this? Do we have the necessary armament to fight such a war?

The answer is a resounding yes! It is definitely within our ability to take on the spirit of this world. The Bible makes it clear that God has already given us all the necessary weapons to win this war. They are powerful weapons. The Word of God lists these weapons for us, we've all read them, we all know what they are. They are Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Faith, Salvation and Prayer (Eph. 6:10-18). If these weapons are used, they have the power to bring down strongholds. In fact, that's the purpose for which they were designed. They will not fail us. God will not fail us.

How, then, do we use these weapons? Where is the battlefield? When do we go to battle? The answer can be summed up in one, simple sentence. We go to war with prayer and fasting, now, on our faces before God. God does not make it complicated for us. It is very simple. We, as a Christian nation, have just forgotten how it is done. If, however, we look back into our nation's history, we will find that our founding fathers recognized where and how this battle was to be fought, and how God's weapons were to be used.

It was commonplace for presidents such as Washington, Monroe, Adams, and even Abraham Lincoln, to call for national days of fasting and prayer. That is absolutely what we need to do. And we need to start doing it right now!

This battle will be fought with prayer and fasting, on our faces before God. We must humble ourselves, confess and repent of all sins, ask forgiveness from God, and from those whom we have wronged. Then seek God's presence. If we do this, He promises that we will win the war, and He will heal our Land. It is very, very simple. Not easy, but very simple.

It is not a question of firepower, but of will power. To win, we must be willing to fight. We can be sure that, just like in athletic events, the wimp factor will threaten our success. But, if we want victory badly enough, we will do battle. And we will do it with everything that is within us. If we don't treat this like a real war, we won't prevail.

We must pray that God's people will unite across all denominational and sectarian lines to fight this war as though everything worthwhile depended upon it—because it does.

When we get serious about solving our problems today (serious enough to quit passing the buck), we will bend our stiff necks and get on our faces before Almighty God, and cry out to Him. When we do this, He will‚ hear us, forgive us, and heal our Land—it is no more difficult than that. That is exactly what He promised to do in Chronicles 7:13-14. He has promised, and He is faithful.

Our seeking, however, must be for the face of God, not for the right president. King Zedekiah could do no more than wring his hands and bite his nails at the prophecy of Jeremiah, even though he accepted it. He could not mandate righteousness in the Land, and he wasn't willing to pay the price for revival. Just as the King of Judah was unable to save his people, so is an elected American president impotent to mandate righteousness in this land. If righteous leadership would make a nation righteous, why did they hang Jesus on a tree?

I would invite you to look around—a real close look. Then, ask yourself, "Is this what I want? Do I approve of family deterioration, drive-by killings, rampant promiscuity, drugs, crime, sexual perversions, religious perversions, suicide and apathy?"

If you are satisfied with what you see—if you think life in America is okay. Then forget everything I have just written—you’re obviously happy. Go back into your closet and match up your suits and ties, skirts and tops. Take another pill, and don't worry about a thing.

But, if you are absolutely sickened by what you see around you, and if you don't want to pass the buck any more (not even to a new president); then, just maybe you are ready to get serious about fixing it.

I would, however, quickly remind you that you would be deluding yourself if you think that you are going to solve the problem by giving it to the president. It doesn't matter how upright that man might be, he still is just a man.

Our land needs revival more than a new president. Without a national revival our land will fall. It is exactly that clear. It should be a no-brainer. I believe that it would be the greatest of all modern-day tragedies if the Church rallies around a political candidate thinking that this man can "save" America for righteousness.

In fact, if our goal is totally political, and we are able to elect that "right" candidate (whoever we think he is), I am convinced that we will be left with an even worse situation than we now face. How so? Because our victory will be false—it will be a placebo, a sugar tablet.

True victory will come only with revival. Where does such a revival come from? Is it something that God periodically sends upon His people, like a warm cozy blanket on a cold evening? No way! God tells us that revival will come only when His people humble themselves, confess their sins, and seek His face (II Chronicles 7:13-14).

Only then will He hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land. We must start the revival. To think otherwise is bad theology or laziness—probably both.

God, revive America, again. Restore righteousness to our land.

Accept the challenge—pray for national revival, now!

We must have revival.

My book, WIND, is the roadmap for this revival. It is available from Amazon, and Kindle. Please consider buying it. Whether or not you get the book, I will provide one article on this site every week until we have revival. If you like it, email the link to a friend, and put it on Facebook.

You may email your thoughts and comments to good.schools@gmail.com. If you choose to email me, please know that I might print some or all of your thoughts on this site. If you don't like what I advocate, let me know.

Some thinkers have already written America off. For instance, in 2008 Fareed Zakaria wrote a New York Times Best Seller entitled The Post-American World in which he outlined just such a scenario.

According to many academics and philosophers (such as Mr. Zakaria), America’s role as a leader in the world is on the wane. Even some of our current political leaders are looking to the rest of the world for guidance through our tough times. They are speaking as though America’s best days are long gone.

Well, perhaps they are right. Maybe it is time to give up and bow down to what the world wants us to do; to surrender our liberties, and our leadership. Perhaps it is time for capitulation.

But, we do have a choice. And the choice is clear and real. In earlier times, when faced with similar circumstances, America (and other God-centric countries) simply heeded the imperative stated in the Old Testament: "If . . . My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2 Chron. 7:13-14).

Nothing could be more clear, or more simple. Within that short statement resides all that is required of us to find our way back. It has worked before, and it will work again.

This book explains in clear terminology how you can do your part to help bring about the restoration of our country through a Third Great Awakening.

WIND is a call for national revival—a clarion call.
